Wow, I love several on this one! Hooow cane I choooose?!
P.S. If I hadn't missed nominations, I would have made sure to add this one: http://www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=73113 ... The Pirate Balthasar!!! Heehee...!
parkeet jones!!! YESH!
VOTE POKESLAUGHTER! ALL OF THE OTHER COMICS HAVE COOTIES!
I love how a few of the ones nominated for original art style are manga haha, yeah copying a style is totally original and not done before!
I'm stuck between Seize the Day and Side Quests, their styles are both pretty awesome!
Anime is not
a specific style, it's a type of drawing style. Granted, Holle Kings looks totally generic to me but the other ones here that could be called anime are done in pretty cool, original styles.
styles don't just ~*~magically appear~*~ out of thin air, they're built up over time depending on the artist's exposure to other styles. so every style in the world can be traced back to an earlier style that they "copied".
Absolutely, but
some people just do quite literally copy a popular style, rather than taking elements from it and developing their own. My point is that to say something is anime or manga is meaningless in terms of the originality of the style. You could have something referred to as manga that looks like a billion other comics, but you could also have something referred to as manga that looks completely original, or anywhere in between.
@ the radical: oh, i'm sorry, you're completely correct. my comment was directed more at top_dog.
Mm-mm! Parakeet Jones or Denizens! Attention!. This is a really tough choice... >:| good god I could be here all night.
Side quests.
about style
yessss, agree with the radical and ninjies! there sure are a lot of marvel comics put there that certainly don't do original styles, and many other 'styles' but i cant think of all of them to hand.;; there's a valid difference between seeing someone's influences and not applying your own ideas to an infleuence. it is a fine line, though- but generally i find a style of drawing should not be determined by how the eyes or the noses are drawn or whatever but by how the line is persued, the mediums used, basically the artist should show how they individually apply things to their way of drawing...sorry to garble on!
hum wunderkammer looks darn unique to me and certainly parakeet jones, if i had a chance to nominate one more i think i would have gone for rock otter too ='D
Holle Kings has some of my very favorite art on Smack Jeeves! The way she handles her blacks, and the crazy squiggly organic background details, are quite distinctive and really cool. :D
I agree with smbhax. Holle Kings is not at all generic. The inking style, for one, is totally distinctive!
Smbhax, Loom, thanks for sticking up for Holle Kings. <3 It means a lot.
Personally, I'm pretty happy to be on the roster with these very unique styles. C: Looks like a good variation from several genres of specialty.
Deffinately Soup
i say door :)
Wow - I think this has been the toughest category. Every single one of these has a very beautiful, unique style.
Denizens! Attention!
Seize the Day
SIeze the DAY!
parakeet jones!
color and watercolor medium is unusual for a webcomic. Style is whimsical.
